Coffee

It was in the 1900s, when Rwanda was under German colonial rule that the first coffee plants were brought into Rwanda. Now that coffee is one of the Rwanda’s chief items of export, coffee sector is a highly important industry in Rwanda.

Most farmers are small-scale farmers growing about 200 coffee trees per family, and few manage a plantation in a large scale which is common in South America. Almost all their export destinations are European countries, while they export an insignificant quantity of coffee to Japan. Rwandan coffee accounts for less than 1 percent of Japan’s coffee market, so Rwandan coffee is very rare in Japan!

Femme Café offer you Women’s Coffee made by KOPAKAMA, a Rwandan coffee growers cooperative, and imported via Alter Trade Japan, Inc.
